When you and your dog arrive, I want you to feel as though I think your dog is the most FABULOUS dog in the world. He is, isn't he? Your first visit will incude a little paper work, rabies certificate please, and the normal information I need to know about your dog. For example, does your dog or anyone in your house have allergies? Does your dog have any medical conditions I need to be aware of? Are there any parts of your dog that he is sensitive about?
Next, we will discuss what exactly I will be doing with your dog. If he is getting a haircut, we will talk about how you want your dog to look when he is finished. If your dog is matted, there may not be much I can do except shave him down. I WILL NOT put your dog through hours of brushing and possible brush burn.
When you leave, I will spend a little time getting to know your dog. I don't just throw him on the table and begin. I get on the floor with your dog. I want your dog to feel as safe and comfortable as possible. I check for any lumps & bumps. Any sores, fleas, ticks, skin issues, etc. When I feel your dog is ready, we begin.
In the tub...
While in the tub, your dog will have his ears cleaned and glands expressed. The appropriate shampoo for his skin will be used. Conditioner is applied if needed and a short massage is given. Most dogs really do start relax at this point. Muscles loosen and eye lids get heavy.
Finishing touches...
When your dog is dry, the final touches are given to the cut we discussed and nails are clipped. For the finishing touch, boys receive a "boy" bandana and a spritz of "cologne" (if their skin allows), and girls receive a "girl" bandana along with a front paw "pawdicure" with polish to match their bandana and a spritz of glitter "perfume" (if their skin allows). As we know, not all dogs appreciate their front toes touched, so if your girl is one of those "finicky" girls, I will not torcher your dog with polish.
